He co-founded Gearbox Software in 1999 and served as the company's president and CEO until 2021. After stepping down from his roles at Gearbox Software, he assumed the positions of CEO and president of Gearbox's parent organization, The Gearbox Entertainment Company. Following the acquisition of Gearbox Entertainment by Take-Two Interactive in 2024, Pitchford continues to serve as president.
