Rami Said Malek is an American actor born on May 12, 1981, in Torrance, California, to Coptic immigrant parents. He studied theater and initially performed in plays in New York City before beginning his career in film and television. Malek's early supporting roles include parts in the sitcom The War at Home, the HBO miniseries The Pacific, the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, and the Night at the Museum film trilogy. He gained widespread recognition for portraying the lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury, in the 2018 biographical film Bohemian Rhapsody, a performance which earned him critical acclaim and the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2019. He was the first actor of Egyptian heritage to win in that category. Malek also starred as the hacker Elliot Alderson in the USA Network series Mr. Robot from 2015 to 2019, receiving the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor. Following his breakthrough, Malek appeared in various prominent roles including the crime film The Little Things, the main antagonist Lyutsifer Safin in No Time to Die, and the biopic Oppenheimer. His recent work includes portraying David L. Hill in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and starring as a CIA cryptographer in The Amateur, as well as playing psychiatrist Douglas Kelley in the film Nuremberg.
