Phylicia Rashad: podcast appearances and interviews

Phylicia Rashad is an American actress born on June 19, 1948. She has been recognized for her work on stage and screen, receiving two Tony Awards and nominations for six Primetime Emmy Awards and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Rashad is perhaps best known for her role as Clair Huxtable on the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show, which aired from 1984 to 1992. Her portrayal of Clair Huxtable earned her Emmy nominations in 1985 and 1986. Additionally, she played Ruth Lucas on Cosby and Brenda Glover in Little Bill, and received Emmy nominations for her roles in A Raisin in the Sun and This Is Us. On the theater stage, she made history as the first Black actress to win the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her role in A Raisin in the Sun in 2004. She also won a second Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for Dominique Morisseau's Skeleton Crew in 2022. Her other Broadway performances include Into the Woods, Jelly's Last Jam, Gem of the Ocean, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Rashad's film work includes appearances in For Colored Girls, Good Deeds, Creed, Creed II, Creed III, and The Beekeeper, and she lent her voice to Pixar's Soul. In addition to her acting career, she has directed productions, including revivals of August Wilson plays and a Broadway run of Purpose at the Helen Hayes Theater. Her recent role as dean of the College of Fine Arts at Howard University concluded in May 2024 after a three-year tenure.
