About Phil Hill
Philip Toll Hill Jr. was an American racing driver born on April 20, 1927, and died on August 28, 2008. He competed in Formula One from 1958 to 1966, securing the World Drivers' Championship in 1961 with Ferrari. Over his eight-season career, he won three Grands Prix. Hill also achieved significant success in endurance racing, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring three times each, all with Ferrari. In 1964, he became the first driver to complete the Triple Crown of endurance racing by winning the 24 Hours of Daytona with NART. A notable figure among American drivers, Hill was one of two Americans to win the World Drivers' Championship, the other being Mario Andretti, and was the only one born in the United States. Known for his thoughtful and gentle demeanor, Hill once stated that he was a peace-loving man and expressed a preference for racing without the desire to be the biggest hero or to beat others.
