Peter Jay Hotez, born on May 5, 1958, is an American scientist and pediatrician specializing in global health, vaccinology, and neglected tropical disease control. He holds the position of founding dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. In addition to serving as a professor of pediatrics and molecular virology and microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine, he is also the director of the Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development and holds an endowed chair in tropical pediatrics. Hotez is a University Professor of Biology at Baylor University. His professional leadership includes serving as the president of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and being a founding Editor-in-Chief of PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases. He is also the co-director of Parasites Without Borders, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to aiding those affected by parasitic diseases in subtropical regions.
