Peter Simon Barnes, born on 10 June 1957, is an English former professional footballer, manager, and pundit. His career as an attacking left-sided winger lasted 19 years and included playing for 25 clubs across eight countries. Barnes began his football journey as an apprentice at Manchester City in July 1972, turning professional two years later. He made his Football League debut in October 1974 at the age of 17 and scored in Manchester City's 1976 League Cup victory. During his playing career, he represented England at the Youth and Under-21 levels and was a member of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship winning team in 1975. Barnes earned 22 senior caps for England, scoring four goals, and participated in two British Home Championship winning campaigns. Throughout his club career, he played for notable teams such as Manchester City, West Bromwich Albion, Leeds United, Real Betis in Spain, Coventry City, Manchester United, and others.
