Paul Stewart, born Paul Sternberg on March 13, 1908, and deceased on February 17, 1986, was a former National Hockey League referee. He was affiliated with Scott Country International. Although widely recognized for his officiating in professional ice hockey, Stewart's background included extensive experience in theatre, radio, film, and television. He frequently portrayed cynical and sinister characters and was known for his work in various entertainment mediums. Stewart maintained a longstanding friendship and professional association with Orson Welles, assisting Welles in securing his initial radio opportunities. He served as an associate producer for the renowned radio program 'The War of the Worlds' and also performed on the program. As a member of the Mercury Theatre, Stewart made his film debut in Orson Welles's landmark film 'Citizen Kane,' portraying Raymond, the butler and valet to Charles Foster Kane. Over his career, he appeared in fifty films and contributed to the production or performance of approximately five thousand radio and television shows.
