Paul Douglas Cornell, born on 18 July 1967, is a British writer with a diverse body of work spanning television, comics, and novels. His television credits include writing for several British series such as Robin Hood, Primeval, Casualty, Holby City, and Coronation Street. He has also contributed to American television, specifically writing an episode for the modern-day Sherlock Holmes series Elementary. Cornell has been involved in the Doctor Who franchise, working on television drama and fiction, and is notable for creating one of the Doctor's spin-off companions, Bernice Summerfield. In addition to his work in television, he has written for British comics as well as for Marvel Comics and DC Comics in the United States. Cornell has published six original novels and has achieved the distinction of being one of only two individuals to be nominated for Hugo Awards in three different media: prose, comics, and television. His multidisciplinary career highlights his versatility as a writer across different formats and genres.
