Patricia King: podcast appearances and interviews

Patricia King is an Irish trade unionist who has held several prominent positions within trade unions and national organizations. She was born in County Wicklow and worked as a trade union organiser for many years before becoming the Dublin organiser of SIPTU in 2004. In this role, she was involved in a significant dispute with Irish Ferries workers during 2006 and 2007. In 2010, King was elected as vice-president of SIPTU, making her the most prominent woman to hold that post. She has also served on various authorities, including the RTÉ Authority, the National Roads Authority, the Dublin Airport Authority, and the Apprenticeship Council. Her contributions include participation in the creation of the National Employment Rights Authority and serving as a lead negotiator for the Croke Park Agreement. Additionally, she was elected as joint vice-president of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. In 2015, Patricia King was elected as the general secretary of the ICTU, becoming the first woman to occupy this position. She was considered the front-runner for the role and has been described as pragmatic and not strongly aligned with the political left.
