Pamela Colman Smith, also known by the nickname 'Pixie,' was a British artist, illustrator, writer, publisher, and occultist who lived from 1878 to 1951. She is most renowned for illustrating the Rider–Waite Tarot deck, also known as the Rider–Waite–Smith Tarot, which was created for Arthur Edward Waite. This tarot deck became a standard among tarot card readers and remains the most widely used today. In addition to her work on the tarot deck, Smith illustrated over 20 books, demonstrating her prolific output as an artist. She authored two collections of Jamaican folklore, highlighting her interest in cultural storytelling. Smith also took roles in editing two magazines, further showcasing her versatility within publishing. She ran the Green Sheaf Press, a small publishing house dedicated to supporting women writers, reflecting her engagement with literary and feminist pursuits.
