Pamela Yvonne Tillis, born on July 24, 1957, is an American country music singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She is the eldest child of country singer Mel Tillis. After initially recording unsuccessful pop material for Elektra and Warner Records in the early 1980s, she transitioned to country music. In 1989, she signed with Arista Nashville and achieved her first top-40 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart with Don’t Tell Me What to Do in 1990. This single was part of her breakthrough album Put Yourself in My Place, which produced five hit singles. Over the next ten years, Tillis released five additional albums with Arista Nashville, including a greatest hits compilation, and charted twelve top-ten hits on the Billboard country music charts, among them the number-one hit Mi Vida Loca (My Crazy Life) in 1995. Her notable songs include Maybe It Was Memphis, Shake the Sugar Tree, Spilled Perfume, her cover of When You Walk in the Room, and All the Good Ones Are Gone. After leaving Arista, she released albums such as It’s All Relative: Tillis Sings Tillis, RhineStoned, and the Christmas album Just in Time for Christmas on her own Stellar Cat label. Her albums Homeward Looking Angel, Sweetheart’s Dance, and Greatest Hits have been certified platinum, while Put Yourself in My Place and All of This Love are certified gold. Tillis has received several awards, including a Grammy in 1999 for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals and the Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year award in 1994. She was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2000 and has also written songs for various artists.
