P. Djèlí Clark, born Dexter Gabriel in 1971, is an American speculative fiction writer and historian. He is an assistant professor in the department of history at the University of Connecticut. Clark uses a pen name that references the griots, traditional Western African storytellers, historians, and poets, to distinguish his literary work from his academic career. He has published under the names P. Djèlí Clark and A. Phenderson Clark.

Clark is known for his contributions to the genre through his award-winning stories and novels. His fantasy novel A Master of Djinn received the Nebula and Locus Awards in 2022. He also gained recognition for his short fiction, including the novella Ring Shout, which won the Nebula, Locus, and British Fantasy Awards in 2021. His work often explores themes rooted in folklore and history, contributing to contemporary speculative fiction with a distinctive voice.
