Oscar Enrique Sanchez Rivas was a Guatemalan footballer and coach known for his significant contributions to the sport in Guatemala. He played primarily for the club Comunicaciones, where he was part of the team that won the 1978 CONCACAF Champions Cup. Sánchez was a prolific scorer, being the top scorer in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala for four consecutive years and ranking as the second highest goalscorer in the league's history. His career included representing the Guatemala national football team at the Olympic Games and participating in three FIFA World Cup qualification campaigns. Recognized as one of the nation's greatest football players, Sánchez has been regarded by regional journalists as one of the best in Guatemala's football history. In a 1999 poll conducted by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics, he was named the best Guatemalan footballer of the 20th Century and was listed among the top 20 players in the CONCACAF region. Sánchez passed away in 2019, leaving a lasting legacy in Central American football.
