Nnedi Okorafor is a Nigerian American writer born on April 8, 1974. She writes science fiction and fantasy for both children and adults. Okorafor is known for her Binti Series and several novels including Who Fears Death, Zahrah the Windseeker, Akata Witch, Akata Warrior, Lagoon, and Remote Control. In addition to novels, she has also contributed to comics and film. Her work is characterized by the themes of Africanfuturism and Africanjujuism, terms she coined, reflecting her dual Nigerian and American heritage. Her writing is influenced by her background and cultural experiences. Okorafor has received multiple literary awards, including the Hugo Award, Nebula Award, Eisner Award, and World Fantasy Award. She is considered part of the third generation of Nigerian writers and has gained significant recognition within the science fiction and fantasy communities. In 2024, she was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame by the Museum of Pop Culture.
