Nathan Smith is a cricketer born on 15 July 1998 who has represented New Zealand and played for Wellington. He made his first-class debut for Otago in March 2016 during the 2015–16 Plunket Shield and was part of New Zealand's squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Smith also debuted in Twenty20 cricket for Otago in December 2016 in the 2016–17 Super Smash and in List A cricket in January 2017 during the 2016–17 Ford Trophy. His performances in domestic cricket earned him contracts with Otago for the 2018–19 and 2020–21 seasons. Notably, in December 2019, he achieved figures of 5 for 14 off 3.4 overs in a T20 match. Smith has played Hawke Cup cricket for North Otago since 2014 and contributed significantly to North Otago's victory in February 2021. In January 2024, he signed with Worcestershire County Cricket Club to compete in the English cricket season, where he took 27 wickets before a hamstring injury shortened his spell. He made his Test debut against England in Christchurch in November 2024 and later signed with Surrey for the 2025 English season. Smith is also known for his relationship with fellow New Zealand international cricketer Amelia Kerr, whom he met during their time with Wellington teams. By 2026, both players had prominent roles in international cricket, with Smith starring in the New Zealand men's team and Kerr captaining New Zealand's women’s team, leading to their recognition as a prominent cricketing couple.
