Michael Charles Leach was an American college football coach known for his innovative offensive strategies and distinctive coaching career. Nicknamed the 'Pirate,' he was a two-time national coach of the year and a three-time conference coach of the year. Leach was recognized for developing the NCAA record-setting air raid offense, a passing-oriented spread system he co-created with Hal Mumme during the 1990s. He served as the head coach at Texas Tech University from 2000 to 2009, becoming the school's winningest coach. From 2020 until his death, Leach was the head coach at Mississippi State University.
