Michael Yon: podcast appearances and interviews

Michael Yon is an American writer and photographer born in 1964. He served in the Special Forces during the early 1980s and began his career as a writer in the mid-1990s. His work primarily focuses on military subjects, especially following the invasion of Iraq. Yon has been embedded multiple times with American and British troops in Iraq, including a notable deployment with the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment of the 25th Infantry Division in Mosul that concluded in September 2005. His reporting has sometimes been contentious, resulting in vocal disagreements with the United States military hierarchy and generating controversy over the nature of his reports. As of 2008, The New York Times reported that he had spent more time embedded with combat units in Iraq than any other journalist. In August 2008, he shifted his blogging focus from Iraq to Afghanistan. His work is primarily supported through donations from readers.
