Michael Vaughan: podcast appearances and interviews

Michael Vaughan is an English cricket commentator and former cricketer who played all forms of the game. He served as England captain for the test team from 2003 to 2008, the one-day international team from 2003 to 2007, and was the first Twenty20 England captain from 2005 to 2007. Vaughan represented Yorkshire in domestic cricket. He was a right-handed opening batter known for forming a successful England partnership with Marcus Trescothick, although he often batted in the middle order for England. Following the 2002/03 Ashes series, in which he scored 633 runs including three centuries, he was ranked as one of the best batters in the world. As captain, Vaughan led England in 51 Tests, winning 26 and losing 11, setting a then-national record. During his tenure, England won all seven home Tests in summer 2004, and his leadership climaxed with a 2-1 victory in the 2005 Ashes, England's first Ashes win in 18 years. Recurring knee injuries, his decision to shift down the batting order to accommodate other opening batsmen such as Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook, and the pressures associated with captaincy affected Vaughan's batting performance later in his career. When not captain, he averaged 50.95 in Tests; as captain, his average was 36.02. Vaughan announced his retirement from first-class cricket on 30 June 2009.
