Michael Richards is an American actor and comedian known for his role as Cosmo Kramer on the NBC television sitcom Seinfeld, which aired from 1989 to 1998. During the series, he received three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Richards began his career as a stand-up comedian, gaining national attention after being featured on Billy Crystal's first cable TV special. He also became a series regular on ABC's Fridays and made guest appearances on shows such as Cheers and Mad About You, where he reprised his role as Kramer. His film work includes roles in movies like So I Married an Axe Murderer, Airheads, Coneheads, UHF, and Trial and Error, the latter being one of his few starring roles. Richards starred in his own sitcom, The Michael Richards Show, which was canceled after two months in 2000. In 2006, he was filmed making a racist tirade against hecklers at the Laugh Factory; the resulting backlash led him to retire from stand-up comedy in 2007. He later appeared as himself in the seventh season of Curb Your Enthusiasm alongside fellow Seinfeld cast members and portrayed Frank in the sitcom Kirstie, which was canceled after one season.
