Sir Michael Edward Palin, born on May 5, 1943, is an English actor, comedian, writer, and television presenter. He gained prominence as a member of the Monty Python comedy group, which included John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, and Graham Chapman. Palin contributed to the group's success by acting in some of its most notable sketches such as Argument Clinic, Dead Parrot sketch, The Lumberjack Song, The Spanish Inquisition, Bicycle Repair Man, and The Fish-Slapping Dance. He co-wrote and starred in several Monty Python films including Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, and The Meaning of Life. Palin’s acting career also includes notable performances in films such as A Fish Called Wanda, for which he received the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, as well as Jabberwocky, Time Bandits, and The Death of Stalin. Beyond his work in comedy and film, Palin has pursued a prolific career in television as a travel documentarian. His journeys have taken him to diverse locations including the North and South Poles, Sahara, Himalayas, Eastern Europe, Brazil, and North Korea, the latter documented in a 2018 series. Since 1980, he has been recognized as a distinguished travel writer and presenter, leading numerous documentaries broadcast on the BBC. Palin served as president of the Royal Geographical Society from 2009 to 2012 and was awarded the BAFTA Fellowship in 2013.
