Melissa Barrera Martínez is a Mexican actress, singer-songwriter, producer, and activist born on July 4, 1990. She has received nominations for three Imagen Awards and a Satellite Award. In 2022, ¡HOLA! magazine named her one of the Top 100 Latina Powerhouses. Barrera began her acting career in Mexico, appearing as Olvido Pérez and Mia González in the telenovelas Siempre tuya Acapulco in 2014 and Tanto amor in 2015. She also played socialite Isabel Cantú in the third season of the Netflix series Club de Cuervos in 2017. Moving to Hollywood, Barrera starred as Lynda Lyn Hernandez in the Starz series Vida from 2018 to 2020. She gained further recognition with her role in the film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's In the Heights in 2021. She is known for portraying Sam Carpenter in the slasher films Scream in 2022 and Scream VI in 2023, which established her status as a scream queen. Her recent work includes starring in the musical romance Carmen in 2022, the vampire comedy Abigail, and the horror romance Your Monster in 2024. Barrera's career faced a setback in 2023 following her voiced pro-Palestine stance. Despite this, she made her Broadway debut playing Rose DeWitt Bukater in the satirical musical Titanique in 2026.
