Max A. Boot, born on September 12, 1969, is a Russian-born American author, editorialist, lecturer, and military historian. He has contributed to a range of prominent publications, including The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, The Weekly Standard, the Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times. Boot has also authored several books on military history and biographical works. His 2018 publication, The Road Not Taken, a biography of Edward Lansdale, became a New York Times bestseller and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for biography. In addition, Boot wrote The Corrosion of Conservatism: Why I Left the Right, which examines his ideological shift away from movement conservatism following the 2016 U.S. presidential election. His biography of Ronald Reagan, Reagan: His Life and Legend, was recognized as a New York Times Bestseller and was included in the New York Times' list of the 10 Best Books of 2024. Currently, Boot serves as the Jeane J. Kirkpatrick Senior Fellow in National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations and is a contributor to The Washington Post.
