Matthew Allan Morris was an Australian teacher and politician. He was elected as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the seat of Charlestown representing the Labor Party. Morris succeeded Richard Face in the 2003 New South Wales state election and was re-elected in 2007 with a significant majority. During his political career, he faced and overcame competition from independent and Liberal candidates. His tenure marked a historical shift when the Liberal Party won the seat of Charlestown for the first time, ending a long-standing Labor hold and contributing to a broader electoral loss for the former Labour government. Morris’s political career concluded in 2011 when he was defeated by Andrew Cornwell, marking a notable change in the region's political landscape. He was part of a family with political ties, being the son of Peter Morris and nephew of Allan Morris. Matthew Morris passed away on 28 June 2020 from brain cancer, which had been diagnosed earlier that year. His death was reported two days later.
