Matthew Hughes: podcast appearances and interviews

Matthew Hughes, born on August 3, 1989, is a Canadian professional associated with Birdie Management where he serves as a business affairs manager. Prior to his career in management, Hughes was a successful middle- and long-distance runner who set the Canadian record in the men's steeplechase at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. He competed as part of the Bowermann Track Club, a Nike-sponsored training group based in Portland, Oregon, under the guidance of coach Jerry Schumacher. Hughes participated in NCAA athletics for the University of Louisville, where he was a two-time NCAA champion in the 3000 meter steeplechase and earned a degree in sport sciences. He represented Canada at the 2016 Summer Olympics, finishing tenth in the steeplechase, and at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where he achieved the highest-ever placement for a Canadian in the event by finishing sixth. Additionally, he competed at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, placing 14th in the steeplechase. Hughes retired from professional running in 2022 and in 2023 was elected Deputy Chair of the World Athletics Athletes' Commission, where he is dedicated to improving the sport and representing athletes' interests.
