Matt Clifford: podcast appearances and interviews

Matthew Philip Clifford CBE is a British entrepreneur born in 1985. He is the co-founder of Entrepreneurs First, an international talent investor and startup accelerator, which was founded in 2011 along with Alice Bentinck. Clifford has served as the chair of the United Kingdom's Advanced Research and Invention Agency and has been actively involved in the development of AI safety initiatives. In the spring of 2023, he helped design the Frontier AI Task Force, which later became the AI Safety Institute. That year, he was appointed to lead the preparatory work for the 2023 AI Safety Summit alongside former Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Black. In December 2023, it was announced that Alice Bentinck would succeed Clifford as CEO of Entrepreneurs First, as he shifted his focus towards opportunities in artificial intelligence. In July 2024, Clifford announced his role leading a review of AI opportunities for the British Labour Government. Following the publication of the AI Opportunities Action Plan in January 2025, Clifford was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Adviser on AI at 10 Downing Street. He stepped down from this role in June 2025 due to family reasons. His report recommended establishing a Sovereign AI fund to support UK AI companies. Among the beneficiaries of this fund is Callosum, a company set up with funding from Clifford’s venture capital fund Entrepreneurs First. Callosum has also received funding and access to AI labs from ARIA.
