Matthew Thomas Cain, born on October 1, 1984, is a former professional baseball pitcher who played his entire Major League Baseball career with the San Francisco Giants from 2005 to 2017. Drafted out of high school in 2002, Cain made his MLB debut at age 20, becoming the youngest player in the National League in 2005. He was a three-time World Series champion and a three-time National League All-Star, recognized as a key figure in the Giants' success during the 2010s for his pitching skills and leadership. In 2009, Cain was named to his first All-Star team and received the Willie Mac Award. During the 2010 postseason, he did not allow an earned run in any of the three playoff games he pitched, contributing to the Giants' World Series victory, their first since 1954. In 2012, Cain signed a contract extension that at the time was the most lucrative for a right-handed pitcher in major league history. Notably, he pitched the 22nd perfect game in major league history on June 13, 2012, and finished the regular season with a 16–5 record, ranking sixth in NL Cy Young Award voting. Throughout the Giants' playoff run that year, Cain started every series-clinching game, and the team won each one.
