Mary Wollstonecraft: podcast appearances and interviews

Mary Wollstonecraft was an English writer and philosopher known for her advocacy of women's rights. She authored a variety of works including novels, treatises, a travel narrative, a history of the French Revolution, a conduct book, and a children's book. Her most notable work is A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, published in 1792, in which she argued that women are not inherently inferior to men but appear to be so due to lack of education. Wollstonecraft believed that both men and women should be treated as rational beings and envisioned a social order based on reason. During her life, she engaged in several unconventional personal relationships; she had a daughter with Gilbert Imlay and later married philosopher William Godwin. Wollstonecraft died at age 38, shortly after giving birth to her second daughter, Mary Shelley, who became a renowned writer. Following her death, her widower published a memoir that revealed her unorthodox lifestyle, which temporarily damaged her reputation. However, with the rise of the feminist movement in the twentieth century, Wollstonecraft's advocacy for women's equality and her critiques of traditional gender roles gained increased significance, establishing her as a foundational figure in feminist philosophy.
