Mary Kay Letourneau: podcast appearances and interviews

Mary Kay Letourneau was an American teacher known for her involvement in a highly publicized legal case. She began her teaching career after earning a teaching degree in 1989 and initially worked at an elementary school in Burien, Washington. In 1991, she first met Vili Fualaau, a second-grade student, and later reconnected with him in sixth grade. In 1996, Letourneau, then aged 34, committed statutory rape against Fualaau, who was 12 years old at the time. She became pregnant with his child, and her arrest followed in 1997 after a relative of her husband reported her actions to authorities. While awaiting sentencing, she gave birth to Fualaau's daughter, and during her incarceration, she gave birth to a second child with Fualaau, also a daughter. Letourneau was sentenced to prison, serving time from 1998 to 2004, and spent time in solitary confinement for attempting to communicate with Fualaau. After her release, she and Fualaau petitioned to lift the no-contact order and married in 2005. Their marriage lasted until 2019, when they separated legally. She passed away in 2020 at the age of 58 from colon cancer, leaving a significant portion of her estate to Fualaau. Her case drew significant media attention for the nature of her relationship with her former student and the legal proceedings that ensued.
