Martin O'Donnell: podcast appearances and interviews

Martin O'Donnell, born on May 1, 1955, is an American composer, audio director, and sound designer prominent for his work in the video game industry. His career began with composing television and radio jingles and scoring for radio stations and films. O'Donnell transitioned into video game music when his company, TotalAudio, provided sound design for the 1997 title Riven. Following this, he produced music for Myth II and was subsequently contracted by Bungie to work on projects including Oni and Halo: Combat Evolved. He joined Bungie staff shortly before the company was acquired by Microsoft and served as the audio director for their projects until his departure in April 2014. O'Donnell is best known for his collaboration with Michael Salvatori on the scores for several Bungie titles, including the Halo series. His work on the Halo trilogy received critical acclaim, earning him multiple awards, and the soundtrack for Halo 2 became the best-selling video game soundtrack in the United States, notable for being the first to break onto the Billboard 200 chart. He also composed music for Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach. His final project with Bungie was the score for the 2014 game Destiny. After his departure, he sued Bungie for unpaid wages and stock ownership. O'Donnell co-founded Highwire Games and composed the soundtrack for their debut virtual reality game Golem, released in late 2019. In addition to his musical career, he is the Republican nominee for Nevada's 3rd congressional district in the 2026 election and was a candidate in the 2024 Republican primary for the same seat.
