Martin Fitzgerald Lawrence, born on April 16, 1965, is an American actor and comedian known for his work in television and film. He began his career performing comedy shows, including appearances at The Improv. His first acting role was in the sitcom What's Happening Now!! which aired from 1987 to 1988. Lawrence gained significant recognition as the creator and star of the Fox television sitcom Martin, which ran from 1992 to 1997 and helped elevate his profile in the entertainment industry. His first major film role was as Detective Sergeant Marcus Burnett in the buddy cop comedy Bad Boys, released in 1995, a role he reprised in three sequels. Lawrence continued to build his filmography with commercially successful titles such as A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, which marked his directorial debut, along with Nothing to Lose, Blue Streak, Big Momma’s House and its sequel, Big Momma’s House 2, Wild Hogs, College Road Trip, Death at a Funeral, and Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son.
