Martin Dugard is an American author known for his work in narrative non-fiction and is recognized as a New York Times bestselling author. Born on June 1, 1961, in Maine, he currently resides in Rancho Santa Margarita, California. Dugard began his writing career in 1988, contributing to endurance sports magazines such as Competitor and Runner's World while working in corporate marketing. His transition to full-time writing occurred in 1993 after covering the Raid Gauloises adventure race in Madagascar. Throughout his career, Dugard has engaged in journalistic work, including covering the Tour de France from 1999 to 2008. In 2000, he published his first work of history, marking the beginning of his focus on narrative nonfiction and historical storytelling.
