Mark Edward Whitacre is an American business executive who is currently the Vice President of Culture & Care and serves as the Executive Director at Coca-Cola Consolidated. Previously, he held a prominent role at Archer Daniels Midland where he was president of the BioProducts Division in Decatur, Illinois. Whitacre gained public attention in 1995 when he became the highest-level corporate executive in the United States to serve as a Federal Bureau of Investigation whistleblower. From 1992 to 1995, he acted as a cooperating witness for the FBI during an investigation into price fixing at ADM. This role in the investigation was significant, as it involved whistleblowing at a high corporate level. However, during the late 1990s, Whitacre was convicted of embezzling approximately 9.5 million dollars from ADM. The frauds he committed led to the loss of his whistleblower immunity, and he was sentenced to nine years in federal prison. He served about eight and a half years and was released in December 2006. After his release, Whitacre transitioned into other roles, including serving as chief science officer and President of Operations at Cypress Systems, a California biotechnology firm. His career reflects a complex history that includes significant corporate misconduct, whistleblowing, and subsequent shifts into leadership in the biotechnology sector.
