About Mark Rutte
Mark Rutte is a Dutch politician who has served as the 14th Secretary General of NATO since October 2024. Prior to that, he was the prime minister of the Netherlands from 2010 to 2024 and the leader of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy from 2006 to 2023. His nearly 14-year tenure as prime minister made him the longest-serving in Dutch history. Rutte initially pursued a career in business management, working for Unilever before entering national politics in 2002 as a member of Jan Peter Balkenende's cabinet. After winning the VVD leadership in 2006 and leading the party to victory in the 2010 general election, he became prime minister following lengthy coalition negotiations.
