Mark Edward Pope is an American collegiate basketball coach and former player. He was born on September 11, 1972. Pope is currently the head men's basketball coach at the University of Kentucky, his alma mater. As a player, he competed as a power forward and small forward. He was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year while playing for the Washington Huskies before transferring to Kentucky. At Kentucky, he served as a team captain during the 1996 NCAA national championship-winning season. After college, Pope spent nearly a decade playing professional basketball both in the United States and internationally. He has held various coaching roles at the collegiate level, including head coaching positions at Utah Valley from 2015 to 2019 and at BYU from 2019 to 2024. His experience as a player and coach reflects a significant career in college basketball, leading to his current role at Kentucky.
