Mark Coleman, born December 20, 1964, is an American retired mixed martial artist, professional wrestler, and amateur wrestler. He holds the distinction of being the first UFC Heavyweight Champion and won the UFC 10 and UFC 11 tournaments. Additionally, Coleman was the Pride Fighting Championships 2000 Open Weight Grand Prix champion and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame at UFC 82. His contributions to the sport include demonstrating the effectiveness of wrestlers in mixed martial arts competition and pioneering the ground-and-pound strategy, which earned him the nickname 'The Godfather of Ground & Pound'. In amateur wrestling, Coleman was a World Championship runner-up, a Pan American Games Gold medalist in 1991, and a three-time Pan American Championships winner. He also competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics and was an NCAA Division I National Champion representing the Ohio State Buckeyes.
