Marie Howe: podcast appearances and interviews

Marie Howe, born in 1950, is an American poet known for her distinguished contributions to contemporary poetry. She served as the New York Poet Laureate from 2012 to 2016 and currently holds the positions of Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets and Poet-in-Residence at The Cathedral of St John the Divine. Throughout her career, Howe has received numerous fellowships including those from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Harvard Radcliffe Institute, and The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. Her debut collection, The Good Thief, was selected by Margaret Atwood for the National Poetry Series in 1987. Howe’s subsequent collections include What the Living Do (1997), The Kingdom of Ordinary Time (2008), and Magdalene (2017), which was longlisted for the National Book Award for Poetry. Her work continues to be widely recognized and celebrated, and in 2024, a book titled New & Selected Poems was published by W. W. Norton & Company. Additionally, her collection What the Earth Seemed to Say was published by Bloodaxe Books in the United Kingdom to critical acclaim.
