About Malcolm Guite
Ayodeji Malcolm Guite, born on 12 November 1957, is an English poet, singer-songwriter, Anglican priest, and academic. He was born in Nigeria to British expatriate parents and has earned degrees from the University of Cambridge and Durham University. His research interests include the intersection of religion and the arts, with particular focus on the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, Owen Barfield, and British poets such as Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Guite has held academic and religious positions, including serving as a Bye-Fellow and chaplain of Girton College, Cambridge, and as an associate chaplain of St Edward King and Martyr in Cambridge. He has also taught as a visiting faculty member at various colleges and universities in England and North America. As an author, Guite has published five books of poetry, comprising two chapbooks and three full-length collections, as well as works on Christian faith and theology. His poetry is characterized by a simple, formalist style, often employing sonnets, with the aim of being profound while maintaining beauty. In addition to his literary pursuits, Guite performs as a singer and guitarist with the Cambridgeshire-based band Mystery Train, which specializes in blues, rhythm and blues, and rock. He shares his passions and reflections through a YouTube channel, engaging with a broader audience.
