Luke Skywalker is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, portrayed by actor Mark Hamill in all the films of the original and sequel trilogies. Introduced in the 1977 film and its 1976 novelization, he is the main protagonist of the original trilogy and also appears in the sequel trilogy. Raised as a moisture farmer on the desert planet Tatooine, Luke joins the Rebel Alliance and becomes a key figure in its struggle against the Galactic Empire. He trains as a Jedi Knight under Jedi Masters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, and ultimately confronts his father, the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Later, Luke mentors his nephew Ben Solo and the scavenger Rey. Mark Hamill's portrayal of Luke earned him the Saturn Award for Best Actor for his performances in The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Last Jedi.
