Lucy Letby: podcast appearances and interviews

Lucy Letby, born on January 4, 1990, is a British former neonatal nurse. She was convicted of murdering seven infants and attempting to murder seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016. Her conviction followed an investigation into an unusual cluster of deaths and collapses in the hospital's neonatal unit, which emerged three years after she began working there. The prosecution's case was based on her presence during many of the incidents, abnormal blood test results, skin discolouration interpreted as signs of insulin poisoning and air embolism, inconsistencies in medical records, her removal of nursing handover sheets, and handwritten notes they characterized as a confession. In August 2023, she was found guilty on seven counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder, receiving fourteen whole life orders. She was acquitted on two of the attempted murder charges, while six other counts resulted in hung jury decisions. One of the unresolved attempted murder charges was retried in July 2024, leading to an additional whole life order. The case has prompted criticism of hospital management for failing to act on clinicians' concerns and has led to a British government-commissioned independent inquiry. Additional cases are being examined by Cheshire Police, and there have been arrests related to corporate manslaughter. Legal challenges have questioned the interpretation of evidence, with some experts arguing that the infants' deteriorations were consistent with natural causes and that statistical evidence was misinterpreted.
