Linda Lou Chavez, born on June 17, 1947, is an American author, commentator, and radio talk show host. She serves as the chairman of the Center for Equal Opportunity and is a Fox News analyst. Chavez writes a syndicated column that appears in newspapers across the country and is a member of the board of directors for two Fortune 500 companies, Pilgrim's Pride and ABM Industries. She has held notable roles in government and public life, including being the highest-ranking woman in President Ronald Reagan's White House and being the first Latina nominated to the United States Cabinet when President George W. Bush nominated her for Secretary of Labor. Although she withdrew from that consideration following media reports about past employment of an illegal immigrant, her career has been marked by significant achievements. In 2000, Chavez was recognized as a Living Legend by the Library of Congress. She also currently serves as vice chair of the Renew Democracy Initiative, a non-profit organization that aims to promote democratic principles across political divides.
