He has competed at the regional level in the light-middleweight division, holding multiple titles including the British and Commonwealth championships between 2012 and 2015. Smith also held the World Boxing Organization light-middleweight title from 2015 to 2016. He comes from a family of professional boxers, being the younger brother of Paul Smith and Stephen Smith, and the older brother of Callum Smith.
