Larry Cohen: podcast appearances and interviews

Lawrence George Cohen was an American filmmaker born on July 15, 1936, and he passed away on March 23, 2019. He initially gained recognition as a writer of Blaxploitation films, including Black Caesar and Hell Up in Harlem, both released in 1973. Cohen later became known for his work in horror and science fiction films during the 1970s and 1980s, often incorporating police procedural and satirical elements into his projects. His notable directorial works include It's Alive and its sequels, God Told Me To, The Stuff, and A Return to Salem's Lot. Early in his career, Cohen was a prolific television writer, creating series such as Branded, Blue Light, Coronet Blue, and The Invaders. He primarily focused on screenwriting later in his career, contributing to films like Maniac Cop and its sequels, Phone Booth, Cellular, and Captivity. In 2006, he returned to directing with an episode of Mick Garris's anthology series Masters of Horror titled 'Pick Me Up.' Recognized for his contributions to genre filmmaking, Cohen received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Fantasia International Film Festival in 2017.
