Larissa Fasthorse: podcast appearances and interviews

Larissa Fasthorse is a Native American playwright and choreographer of Sicangu Lakota heritage. She is based in Santa Monica, California. Fasthorse made history in 2023 as the first known female Native American playwright to have a production on Broadway with her play The Thanksgiving Play, staged at Second Stage Hayes Theater. In that same year, she joined Arizona State University as a professor of practice within the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies and the Department of English. She collaborates with Michael John Garcés and Ty Defoe. Her work in 2024 includes contributing to the international tour of Peter Pan: The Broadway Musical, which features an adapted book by Fasthorse. Fasthorse grew up in South Dakota, where she initially pursued a career as a ballet dancer and choreographer, but her dancing career ended after ten years due to an injury. She then returned to her early interest in writing and became involved in Native American drama and the Native American film community. She later began writing and directing her own plays, several of which are published by Samuel French and Dramatic Publishing. Along with Ty Defoe, Fasthorse co-founded Indigenous Direction, a consulting firm dedicated to helping organizations and individuals create accurate work involving Indigenous peoples. Clients of Indigenous Direction include Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Guthrie Theater. Fasthorse has served as vice chair of the Theatre Communications Group and is currently vice chair of the board of directors for Playwrights Horizons.
