Laraine Newman: podcast appearances and interviews

Laraine Newman, born on March 2, 1952, is an American actress, voice actor, comedian, and writer. She gained prominence as a cast member of NBC's Saturday Night Live, where she performed from 1975 to 1980. During her tenure on the show, she created several notable characters such as Connie Conehead, an early version of the Valley girl Sherry, and Christie Christina. Newman was a founding member of the improvisational comedy group The Groundlings and studied mime with Marcel Marceau in Paris after graduating from Beverly Hills High School in 1970. Before joining SNL, she was hired by Lorne Michaels for a Lily Tomlin TV special in 1974. Her work extended to appearances in films such as Stardust Memories, Problem Child 2, Coneheads, and The Flintstones. As a voice actress, Newman provided her talents in both television and film, contributing to Pixar productions including Finding Nemo, WALL-E, Up, and Inside Out. In 2021, she released her memoir May You Live in Interesting Times on Audible. Newman comes from a family involved in creative fields; her sister is writer and musician Tracy Newman, and her children include actress and comedian Hannah Einbinder and actor Spike Einbinder. Her contributions to comedy and acting have been recognized by her inclusion among the honorees of the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2017.
