Kristine Tsuya Yamaguchi, born on July 12, 1971, is an American former competitive figure skater, author, and philanthropist. She is recognized for her achievements in singles skating, including winning the gold medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics, securing the title of World champion twice in 1991 and 1992, and becoming the 1992 U.S. champion. In 1992, Yamaguchi made history as the first Asian American to win a gold medal in a Winter Olympic competition. Additionally, she competed as a pairs skater with Rudy Galindo, earning the World Junior champion title in 1988 and winning the national championship twice in 1989 and 1990. Following her retirement from competition in 1992, she performed in shows and competed professionally, winning the World Professional Figure Skating Championships four times in her career. Her accolades include induction into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2005 and winning the sixth season of Dancing with the Stars in 2008.
