Keith E. Sonderling is an American attorney and government official who has held several key roles within the United States Department of Labor and related agencies. He has served as the acting secretary of labor since 2026 and as the deputy secretary of labor since 2025. Additionally, Sonderling has held positions such as the acting director of the United States Office of Government Ethics, acting director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and acting under secretary of commerce for minority business development. His previous government service includes serving as the vice chair and a member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission from 2020 to 2024, and as acting administrator of the Wage and Hour Division in 2019. Sonderling's background in law includes earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida and a Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University's Shepard Broad College of Law. He began his legal career at Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart in 2008, focusing on employment and business litigation. His public service career further developed when he became a senior policy advisor at the Wage and Hour Division in 2017, later serving as its deputy administrator and acting administrator. Nominated to the EEOC by President Donald Trump and confirmed in 2020, he served as vice chair until January 2021. In 2024, he was appointed deputy secretary of labor and confirmed in 2025. As deputy secretary, he managed department operations, especially during Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer's frequent absences.
