Karl Smith, born on 15 September 1959, is a Jamaican athlete known for his specialization in hurdles. He represented Jamaica in the 1984 Olympics, competing in the 400 metres hurdles and as part of the 4 × 400 metres relay team. During the Olympics, he finished behind medalists Danny Harris and Harald Schmid in the semi-final round, which prevented him from qualifying for the final. Smith competed at the collegiate level for the Texas Longhorns men's track and field team during his NCAA career. Recognized as the top Jamaican hurdler of his era, he remains ranked as the 19th all-time performer in his event. Additionally, Smith has continued his involvement in hurdling through Masters athletics, where he holds the world record in the 110 metres hurdles.
