Karina Maxine Gould, born on June 28, 1987, is a Canadian politician and member of the Liberal Party who has served as the Member of Parliament for the riding of Burlington since October 19, 2015. She has held multiple roles within the Canadian government, including serving as the Minister of Democratic Institutions from February 1, 2017, and later as the Minister of International Development starting November 20, 2019. Gould is notably the youngest woman in Canadian history to serve as a Cabinet minister and was the first woman to have a child while serving as a federal minister. During her tenure, she has participated in several portfolios and has taken maternity leave in January 2024, with Steven MacKinnon temporarily replacing her as House Leader. She returned to the role in July 2024. On January 18, 2025, Gould announced her candidacy for the Liberal leadership, becoming the youngest candidate and the only one still serving as a cabinet minister at the time. She withdrew from the race on January 24, 2025, and finished in third place.
