Juliette Binoche is a French actress born on March 9, 1964. She has appeared in over 60 films primarily in French and English. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and a César Award. She is one of the few actresses, alongside Julianne Moore, to have won acting awards at all three of the major international film festivals, namely the Venice Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival, and the Cannes Film Festival. Binoche first gained recognition working with auteur directors such as Jean-Luc Godard, Jacques Doillon, and André Téchiné. Her performance in Téchiné's Rendez-vous in 1985 helped establish her as a star in France. She won the Volpi Cup and the César Award for Best Actress for her role as a grieving music composer in Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colours: Blue in 1993. She earned the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of a nurse in The English Patient in 1996 and was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Chocolat in 2000. In 2010, she received the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for her role in Abbas Kiarostami's Certified Copy. Binoche has continued to star in notable films such as Clouds of Sils Maria, High Life, and The Return.
