Joseph Leonard Gordon-Levitt is an American actor and founder of the online media platform HitRecord. Born in Los Angeles to a Jewish family, he began his acting career as a child, appearing in films such as A River Runs Through It, Holy Matrimony, and Angels in the Outfield. He also played Tommy Solomon in the television series 3rd Rock from the Sun. After supporting roles in films like 10 Things I Hate About You and starring roles in Manic and Treasure Planet, he took a break from acting to study at Columbia University before returning to the profession. Since his return, Gordon-Levitt has starred in numerous films including Mysterious Skin, Brick, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Looper, Lincoln, The Walk, Snowden, and The Trial of the Chicago 7.
